Pulling up civic officials for poor maintenance of Kamarajar Bus Stand, particularly toilets, here on Saturday, Principal Secretary (Municipal Administration and Water Supply) Harmandar Singh instructed them to ensure cleanliness.
As thousands of public visit bus stands and railway stations daily, the civic body should keep toilets clean and provide other basic facilities, he said. Corporation Commissioner Manoharan and his team, who accompanied the Secretary, were told to engage conservancy workers and clean public toilets. Food Safety officials were told to remove eateries or outlets, which prepared food in an unhygienic environment. At a time when the Tamil Nadu government was preparing to ban plastic goods, such lackadaisical attitude of civic officials would tarnish reputation of the government and officials, he said at a review meeting, an official from the Dindigul Corporation said.
Later, Mr. Harmandar Singh visited the park at RM Colony here, which was being given a facelift under the AMRUT project at a cost of ₹1.20 crore. Collector T.G. Vinay briefed about the ₹ 20-crore drinking water project from the Athur dam. The storage level in the dam had risen to 10 feet (maximum level 23 feet) after the recent rain.
The Corporation had been supplying water twice a month only amidst complaints of sewage mixing with drinking water and pipeline burst, among other issues.
