No drinking water in our ward, say residents

Representatives on behalf of residents of Gopal Nagar Extension, V.O.C Nagar, Arthi Theatre Road West, Joseph Colony and Telephone Colony in ward number 14 of the Dindigul Corporation, submitted a petition to the District Collector, M. Vijaya Lakshmi, here on Monday, complaining that the area has not been receiving drinking water for the past few weeks.

“Water was being supplied to these neighbourhoods through two main pipelines. Two weeks ago, corporation officials snapped the pipeline that ran through Arthi Theatre Road till V.O.C. Nagar. Due to this, the pressure of water has become extremely low and many houses are not getting water supply at all. We have submitted complaints to the corporation several times but no action has been taken so far,” said G. Danapalan, a functionary of the Bharatiya Janata Party, representing the people of the area.

The petition also pointed out that many commercial establishments, schools and hospitals are situated on Arthi Theatre Road and hence water supply should be restored immediately. “The road is one of the arterial roads in Dindigul town and it is full of potholes. Despite funds earmarked by the corporation, no work has begun yet,” he added.
