Alagappa University, Karaikudi, has secured the 28th position in the ‘universities category’ and 47th position in the ‘overall category’ among 3,127 higher educational institutions in National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2019.

In a press release, Vice-Chancellor N. Rajendran on Monday said the NIRF ranking was being done annually by the Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD) since 2016, and Alagappa University came out with an overall score of 48.54, which was higher than its last year overall score of 48.25.

“This shows an improvement in teaching, learning and resources, graduation outcome and perception of public, academics and employers,” he said.

President Ram Nath Kovind released the NIRF Ranking 2019 list at the ‘Release and award ceremony – India Rankings 2019’ function organised by MHRD recently in New Delhi.

The following parameters — teaching, learning and resources, research and professional practice, graduation outcomes, outreach and inclusivity and perception of the public, academics and employers to improve quality in higher education — were adopted while ranking the universities. In all, 3,127 institutions under various categories and domains were evaluated and assigned ranks based on total sum of marks scored under each parameter, he added.

The Vice Chancellor and J. Jeyakanthan, coordinator of NIRF, said the university could make the achievement owing to a number of quality and innovative academic and research activities carried out by faculty members during the assessment year. The achievement was the culmination of development of infrastructure and coordinated efforts of academic, administrative staff and research scholars.
