National Human Rights Commission members — S. Lister, Senior Investigator, and A. Inian, Assistant Investigator — paid a visit to the grief-stricken family of Pullaveli in Pazhayakayal panchayat on Friday and met the grief-stricken family of Singaram (48), who was murdered by an armed gang at KTC Nagar in Tirunelveli on February 24.

He was a close aide of C. Pasupathi Pandian, a slain Dalit leader. After consoling the family, the members asked whether they received assistance meant for them through Adi Dravidar Welfare Department. V. Kamalam, District Adi Dravida Welfare Officer, who accompanied the NHRC members, said Collector M. Ravikumar met the bereaved family on Thursday. A solatium of ₹4.12 lakh was given to them on February 27. Rice, dhal, oil and wheat required for three months were provided to the family. Utensils were also given, he said.

The Collector said in a statement that efforts were being taken to provide widow assistance and free house site patta to the family through the Srivaikuntam Tahsildar office. Efforts were also being taken to provide additional assistance through Ambedkar Foundation.

Parvathi, wife of Singaram, would be offered a job as helper in the noon meal programme. Since Vishnudevi, a 12-year-old daughter of the deceased, was mentally retarded, efforts had been taken to provide monthly assistance to her through Differently Abled Welfare and Rehabilitation office.

Assistance would be provided to Jeevasakthi, another daughter of the deceased, to pursue her higher studies. Tirunelveli District Adi Dravida Welfare Officer Nirmala and Revenue department staff were present.
