Say prompt delivery of welfare schemes, addressing public demands priorities

Collectors for Tirunelveli and Thoothukudi districts assumed office in their respective Collectorates on Monday.

Tirunelveli Collector Sandeep Nanduri said he would accord highest priority for taking government’s welfare schemes to the beneficiaries and making the district clean and green through sustained efforts.

Speaking to reporters after assuming office here, Mr. Sandeep Nanduri, who was instrumental in introducing a slew of innovative measures in Madurai Corporation as the Commissioner to make the city clean, said steps in sustained fashion would be taken to make Tirunelveli, a clean and green district.

A detailed project report on the initiatives to be taken for making the district clean and green would be sent to the State Government for its approval.

He said a comprehensive plan for conserving Tamirabharani, the lifeline of three districts, would also be prepared and its water would be given to industrial units based on the availability for drinking purpose.

The Collector, who exhorted his subordinates to ensure prompt delivery of welfare measures to beneficiaries, said all possible steps would be ensured to take government schemes to the doorsteps of the common man.

Holding an engineering degree from Osmania University and Masters in Business Administration from IIM-Bangalore, Mr. Sandeep became a civil servant in 2009 and has served as Assistant Collector (Training) at Virudhunagar, Sub-Collector, Hosur, Project Director, District Rural Development Agency, Salem, Executive Director, Metro Water, Chennai and Commissioner of Madurai Corporation.

N. Venkatesh assumed office as Collector of Thoothukudi on Monday. After assuming charge, he said he would study the ground realities of the district and fulfil people’s needs on priority basis.

Mr. Venkatesh belongs to the 2009 batch and was posted as Assistant Collector (Training) in Madurai in 2010.

Prior to his new assignment, Mr. Venkatesh (35), who hails from Hyderabad, worked as Deputy Secretary, Finance Department for four years, till recently. He is the 24th Collector of Thoothukudi since the district was bifurcated from Tirunelveli on October 20, 1986.

Earlier, Mr. Venkatesh held the office of Sub Collector in Nagercoil during 2011-2012 and was Additional Collector of Coimbatore during 2012-13.

District Revenue Officer M. Veerappan and officials from various departments greeted the Collector on the occasion.
