R. Kannan took charge as the new Collector of Virudhunagar district here on Monday.
Prior to this posting, the IAS officer from the 2015 batch had served in different districts in Tamil Nadu in the rank of Revenue Divisional Officer among other designations in the revenue department and served in tsunami relief operations.
He served as Commissioner of TNCSC, Chennai, Director, Integrated Child Development Scheme, Chennai.
During the Gaja cyclone, which hit the central regions of Tamil Nadu and when Chennai city was flooded in 2015, Mr. Kannan had served in rehabilitation projects.
After conferment of IAS in 2015, he had served as Deputy Commissioner (Health) in Chennai Corporation.
The outgoing Collector A. Sivagnanam was transferred to the Department of Health and Family Welfare, Chennai, as Joint Secretary.
The new Collector held a meeting with senior officials and presided over the weekly grievance meeting at the Collectorate.
In a brief interaction with reporters, he said that all government schemes and ongoing projects would be implemented as per schedule. Redressal of public grievances would be accorded top priority.
