After the Government allowed flying of national flag even at night subject to conditions that the flagpole should be tall and the flag well illuminated, Alagappa University has erected a permanent 100 foot tall high polygon flag mast on its premises and made lighting arrangements to fly the flag at night as well.

Prof. N. Rajendran, Vice-Chancellor hoisted the tri-colour at the newly erected pole, on Thursday. He hoisted a 20 ft tall 30 ft length flag, using an electric motor. The 1.5 HP (horse power) motor has been installed for hoisting and lowering the massive flag.

Four flood light fitted with 200 watts LED bulbs have been installed with time control to focus on the flag during night, a release from the university said. The university has made arrangements at a total cost of ₹15 lakh to fly the national flag at night as well.
