NAFED to procure green pulses directly from farmers

Ryots to get ₹69.75 kg per kg; Procurement from February 1 up to April 30

VIRUDHUNAGAR

Virudhunagar district Agriculture Department has planned for direct procurement of green pulses through National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India from February 1 up to April 30.

A total of 1,000 tonnes of green pulses at a minimum support price of ₹69.75 per kg had been planned, the Collector, A. Sivagnanam, said in a statement.

Farmers who had grown green pulses should bring their produce, after completely drying them, to the Regulated Markets at Rajapalayam, Virudhunagar and Aruppukottai.

“The farmers stand to gain a lot as the procurement price has been fixed at a higher rate of ₹ 69.75. In open market, they might get around ₹40 to ₹50,” the Joint Director of Agriculture, P. Arunachalam, said.

He added that a target of 1000 tonnes has been fixed as of now. However, if farmers bring larger quantity also, it would be procured, he added.

The farmers should produce their farmers identity card, adangal record (details of having grown green pulses and the extent of land on which it was grown), Aadhaar card, photocopy of the front page of bank account passbook, photograph.

Farmers of Virudhunagar district who had raised green pulses should make use of the opportunity and get benefitted with higher profits, the statement said.
