June 10, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:41 am IST - MADURAI:

DMK’s Madurai south district secretary G. Thalapathi received a threat call on Sunday. Tirupparankundram police have registered a case of criminal intimidation through anonymous communication and are investigating.

According to police, Mr. Thalapathi received the call on his mobile phone on Sunday night at 8.30 p.m.

The caller, a man who did not identify himself, told Mr. Thalapathi that he would be done away with “like Suresh.”

The police said that the caller had referred to ‘Pottu’ Suresh, a DMK functionary who was hacked to death in the city by an armed gang on January 31, 2013. Suresh was a close aide of former Union Minister M.K. Alagiri.

The police registered a first information report on Monday based on Mr. Thalapathi’s complaint.

The call was made from a public call office in Othakadai area, a suburb on the northern side of Madurai city, police said.
