Murder and rape accused arrested



Special police teams have arrested a murder accused – an engineering graduate and a rape accused – a 19-year-old teen, who went absconding and hiding for more than a week after allegedly committing the crimes.

Superintendent of Police Omprakash Meena said after visiting several places, a special team arrested A. Vino Bala, 23, an Electronic Communication Engineer of Kannukudi near RS Mangalam on Tuesday on the charges of murdering his neighbour, a 48-year-old woman on September 19.

The SP said another special team after visiting Coimbatore and other places arrested a 19-year-old teen of Thiruvalluvar Nagar in Thiruvadanai on the charge of raping a village nurse at the Primary Health Centre (PHC) at Pandukudi near Thiruvadanai on September 12.

Both the accused were produced before magistrate courts and remanded in judicial custody, police said. The engineering graduate had allegedly hacked to death, T. Indira, his neighbour, over a trivial issue, police said. The unemployed accused was at home when he picked up a quarrel with the victim after his goat entered into the courtyard of her house and drank water.

After a wordy duel, the accused picked up a billhook from his house and hacked her to death, police said. After allegedly committing the crime, he absconded, police added.

A special police team also the 19-year-old school dropout who was wanted in connection with the alleged rape of a village nurse at PHC at Pandukudi on the night of September 12. Police said the accused after visiting the PHC on the pretext of seeking medical assistance, allegedly raped the nurse.

The 37-year-old nurse, mother of two children, was alone at the PHC located on the outskirts of the village, police said.
