A day after effecting one-way traffic on Gokhale Road between Tamukkam Junction and the P.T.R. Palanivelrajan statue junction, the city police on Monday regulated traffic on Azhagarkoil Road making it a one-way between Ambedkar Statue and Goripalayam.

All the vehicles proceedings from Goripalayam towards Periyar statue in Tallakulam outpost will have to take Gokhale Road near Tamukkam Ground, and pass through New Natham Road, Azhagar koil Road and Melur Road. All vehicles coming from Goripalayam bound for Gandhi Museum will have to take Panagal Road, Government Rajai Hospital and Tiruvalluvar Statue junction.

No vehicle will be allowed to cut across Azhagarkoil Road at the Tamukkam ground junction. In effect, vehicles going to Chinnakanmai Street to Gandhi Museum and vice-versa would not be allowed to pass through the Tamukkum ground junction. All the vehicles coming from these two roads would be allowed to take only free left turn.

All the vehicles from Gandhi Museum Road bound to take right turn at Tamukkam ground junction to reach the Azhagarkoil Road should make a detour via Dr. Thangaraj Salai, Raja Muthiah Mandram. No vehicle would be allowed to enter the Gohkale Road from P.T.R. Palanivelrajan statue junction.

Vehicles bound for New Natham Road and Pudur from Melur Road which were hitherto going via Periyar Statue junction would be allowed to take a right turn at the Kakkan statue towards the Youth Hostel and touch Azhagarkoil Road near the Fortune Pandian Hotel.

All the heavy vehicles and light vehicles, like bus, lorry, car, cargo vans and autorickshaws, bound for Tamukkam (hitherto going via O.C.P.M. School junction, Gokhale road and Public Works Department office) would have to go through Lady Doak College Road and touch Azhagarkoil Road via Gokhale Road.

Vehicular traffic on the stretch of road between Hotel Fortune Pandian and Race Course Ground is banned. Similarly, traffic on the stretch of road between Dr. Ambedkar Statue and Periyar Statue via New Natham Road or Pudur is banned.

In a statement, the Commissioner of Police, Sanjay Mathur, has said the changes in vehicular traffic movement have been brought to decongest traffic on Azhagarkoil Road and sought cooperation from the road users.
