TIRUNELVELI
Terming the GST and NEET trash, CPI State secretary R. Mutharasan on Sunday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who had gone plogging on the beach near Mamallapuram, must clear them as well.
Addressing journalists in Tirunelveli, Mr. Mutharasan said the recyclable or non-recyclable garbage found in public places and on beaches could be removed by sanitary workers, who were more conscious than anyone about conserving nature. There was no need for Mr. Modi to do such exercises under the glare of photographers and videographers, he added.
Instead, he said, the Prime Minister must remove the GST and NEET, “which were more harmful trash” that wiped out micro, small and medium industries and aspirations of prospective medical students. Major industrial units too had to cut down their production owing to economic slowdown, he said.
Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitaraman’s assertion that the GST could not be withdrawn though it had “some adverse effects”, could not be accepted, he said.
Mr. Mutharasan also criticised the Centre for Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project expansion programme, move to establish ‘Away from Reactor’ facility to store spent fuel and hydrocarbon projects in the delta.
Exuding confidence over the resounding victory of the Congress candidate in Nanguneri and the DMK candidate in Vikravandi bypolls, the CPI leader urged Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami to explain the delay in taking industrial investments in Nanguneri Special Economic Zone to top gear by attracting investments though two Global Investors’ Meet had been organised apart from his recent foreign trip to attract investments. There was no cold storage facility at Kalakkad to save plantain growers.
“This is a State government which has been rejected by the people in the last Lok Sabha polls as it is a slave to the Modi-led Union government. It is BJP’s ‘benami government’ and has sacrificed the State’s welfare due to fear and to continue in power. Hence, the voters will teach a fitting lesson to the AIADMK candidates in Nanguneri and Vikravandi,” Mr. Mutharasan said.
