The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court on Thursday transferred the case of a missing engineering student to the CB-CID police. The youth went missing from his home town of Dindigul in 2010.

A Division Bench of Justices M.M. Sundresh and N. Sathish Kumar transferred the case to the CB-CID after Dindigul police failed in their efforts to trace the boy. The boy went missing during Deepavali holidays in 2010.

R. Chinnakali, the father of the youth Shanmugam, who was 21 years then, claimed that his son had left their house on November 7, 2010, telling them that he would be back after meeting his friends. But he failed to turn up. A complaint was lodged with Dindigul police.

The police, in their status report filed before the court, said their efforts had turned futile. The police said they had even extended their search to Velliangiri hills in Coimbatore district after learning that the boy had frequented the place before he went missing.
