Miraculous escape for 20 passengers

October 14, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 08:06 am IST - DINDIGUL:

At least 20 passengers, who were returning from Kodaikanal hills, had a miraculous escape when the brake in the van they were travelling in reportedly failed on Tuesday.

The driver hit a rock near Dum Dum Parai and brought the vehicle to a halt.

Police said that a group of 20 persons, including women and children, from Gujiliamparai had been to Kodaikanal to attend a family function. On return, when the van was approaching Dum Dum Parai, the driver realised that the brake had failed. Though shocked, he however, managed to bring the vehicle under control by hitting against a rock on the left side of the road.

In the impact, passengers suffered injuries. Vehicles from Batlagundu were rushed and the injured were taken to the government hospital. As the hospital was functioning with skeletal strength, there was delay in giving first-aid to the victims. A few among them were rushed to Dindigul Government Headquarters Hospital, the police added.
