Minor girl sexually abused in toilet; accused arrested

In a shocking incident, a 51-year-old man, who was manning a corporation pay-and-use toilet at Sundarajapuram, sexually abused a minor girl on Saturday.

Since the girl’s house did not have an individual toilet, she used the common facility near Sundarajapuram market. The toilet was run by a self-help group for women. In the absence of the group leader, Latha, her husband P. Balasubramani used to man the toilet.

“The toilet is busy during the working hours of the market. But, in the afternoon, it becomes deserted. The girl had gone there around 3 p.m. when the accused was alone. He had physically abused her in the toilet,” a police officer said.

However, the girl had revealed the incident to her grandmother only the next day after she felt pain.

“The elderly woman had picked a quarrel with the accused and his family members. Realising that the woman might go to the police, the accused along with his family members absconded,” a police source said. An employee of Childline said that the accused had been physically abusing the girl for sometime. Accused was arrested on Monday night, the police said.
