Associated Country Women of the World (ACWW), an international organisation for rural women which claims a membership of nine million through its 365 member-societies in over 70 countries, is organising a three-day Area Conference here to debate ways to empower women.

The conference begins on Wednesday. It is being hosted by Sri Sakthi Social Economical and Educational Welfare Trust. Around 100 delegates, including industry leaders, representatives of development agencies and experts from South and Central Asia are expected to take part in the meeting.

Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, ACWW International president, U.K., May Kidd, said that the entire human race was one family. While some of the societies were advanced in terms of development, they still had a duty to help the developing and undeveloped ones.

It was in this direction that ACWW was working. One of their main objectives was to empower women and the family. Jo Almond, secretary, said that the organisation would hold its 27th Triennial Conference on the theme, ‘Empowering Woman Worldwide Encourage, Educate, Enrich,' in Chennai between September 26 and October 2, 2013. More than 600 delegates were expected to attend the event.

Sister Viji, area president, said that the organisation had nine divisions covering its member-countries. Its South and Central Asia division covered seven countries, including India. S.P. Jothi, president, Sri Sakthi Trust, and S.P. Jaya, secretary, spoke.
