Mayor reviews functioning of departments

Mayor V.V. Rajan Chellappa reviewed the functioning of various departments of the Corporation on Wednesday and Thursday.

Along with Deputy Mayor R. Gopalakrishnan and Corporation Commissioner S. Natarajan, Mr. Chellappa, met with officials of each department separately. The Mayor also got familiarised himself with the officials, functioning of the departments and schemes, and welfare projects implemented by them.

He reviewed the progress of works implemented under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission and the Mega Tourism Project. He discussed with officials of the Engineering Department the issues of solid waste management, drinking water supply, streetlights, and maintenance of corporation assets. Mr. Chellappa was apprised of the city's financial position, its liabilities, general fund and scheme funds among others.

Among those who participated in the meetings were Deputy Commissioner K. Tharpagaraj, City Engineer A. Madhuram, Superintending Engineering R. Vijayakumar, Assistant Commissioners N. Arumuga Nainar, Murugesa Pandiayan, M.R. Samy and Palanichamy.

Officials and employees of all the departments participated in the two-day review.
