Man gets 10-year jail term for raping minor girl



The Mahila Court has awarded 10-year imprisonment to a 22-year-old man after convicting him on the charges of raping a minor girl after trespassing into her house at Vithanur in June 2013.

Holding that the prosecution has provided the case beyond reasonable doubt, Principal District Judge A. Kayalvizhi, who is in-charge of the Mahila court, convicted the man on the charges of rape and trespass on Wednesday.

The Judge also imposed a fine of ₹ 60,000 and directed the authorities to pay ₹ 55,000 of the fine amount to the victim and the balance towards the cost. The accused has to undergo one more year imprisonment if he failed to pay the fine, she said.

The prosecution case was that the accused – M Dinesh Babu, a daily wage worker, who was 18 years old at the time of committing the crime, had raped the 16-year-old girl of the same area.

The prosecution said the victim was returning home late night after attending temple festival on June 20, 2013 when the accused followed her. After she got into her house, the accused trespassed into the house and raped her, the prosecution said.

The judge also directed the authorities to secure compensation to the victim from the government.
