Man found hanging in Palayamkottai prison

A man who was in judicial custody for murdering his 21-day-old baby was allegedly found hanging in the Palayamkottai prison on Tuesday.

Esakkimuthu, 27, a mason belonging to Ayyanarkulam near Alangulam, was held for allegedly murdering his baby by throwing him into a pond, was found hanging on a tree at the prison using his lungi, the police said. He has been in judicial custody since October 13.

He allegedly killed the infant during the night in a fit of rage as his wife, Esakkiyammal alias Ananthi, refused to come back from her parents’ home at Seethaparpanallur immediately.

When prison authorities saw him hanging, they took him to the Tirunelveli Medical College Hospital, where he was declared brought dead. Perumalpuram police are investigating.
