Man dies in attack by Indian gaur

A 55-year-old man, Jebaraj of Vettuvarai near Vilpatti near here, was killed in an attack by an Indian gaur at his house on Thursday.

Police said that Jebaraj was moving around the garden when he spotted the wild animal. Apprehending trouble, he attempted to run inside the house, but the gaur attacked him, killing him on the spot.

On information, forest officials and police arrived at the spot. The body was sent to hospital for a post mortem. Officials said Jebaraj’s wife Jebarani was Principal of the Constituent College of Mother Theresa Women’s University. Jebaraj used to win prizes in the annual boat race events held in Kodaikanal lake.

People living inthe hill station had been complaining of movement of wild animals in habitations and private estates. Chasing them deep into the forest and maintaining a constant vigil alone would save human lives, environment activists said.
