MADURAIN. Lakshmanan of Bypass Road here was booked on a charge of causing hurt to a Special Sub-Inspector attached to GRH police station on Saturday.

The SSI, G. Manoharan, was on duty at the police station, when a man in a ‘serious’ condition was reportedly brought in a car and admitted to an emergency services ward around 4.45 a.m. However, the doctors declared him brought dead. But, a group of around seven relatives of the deceased created a flutter. When the SSI intervened, Lakshmanan abused him and entered into a quarrel with him, thereby stopping him from discharging his duty.

Lakshmanan and others took the body in the car they came, and drove the vehicle in a rash and negligent manner. Lakshmanan, who drove the car, knocked down the SSI while exiting the hospital gate. Mr. Manoharan sustained an injury on his left elbow. Based on a complaint filed by him, the police have registered a case against Lakshmanan under Sections 279, 337 and 353 of the IPC and are investigating.
