Tension prevailed for a while at the District Collectorate and the Corporation office here on Monday morning after the Collectorate received an anonymous call about bombs being planted on the premises.

An anonymous caller telephoned the Collectorate at 10 a.m. and claimed to have planted explosives on the District Collectorate and Corporation office premises which, he said, would go off at 12 noon.

Police sources said the call had been made from a public telephone booth near Anna bus stand by dropping a one rupee coin.

Tallakulam police station was immediately alerted, after which the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) arrived at the Collectorate and the Corporation office.

The team made a thorough check on the Collectorate campus. Vehicles parked there were checked as well. A few offices remained closed for public until the checks were completed.

Similarly, the members of the BDDS combed the Corporation premises and brought in sniffer dogs to aid in the operation. The check went on till 2 p.m. at both the places and no explosives were reported to have been found. The police said that a probe is on to trace the identity of the caller.
