Madurai GRH to get WHO funds

Representatives of the World Health Organisation (WHO) carried out an inspection at Government Rajaji Hospital (GRH) here on Monday and promised to sanction Rs.1 crore for the upgrade of two health facilities.

Dr.Suman Latha Wattal Shez and Dr.Neeru Singh of the WHO, visited the GRH and Madurai Medical College, following a request made by the hospital authorities a month ago, to inspect Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Department, Artificial Limb Centre and Microbiology Department.

Accepting the proposal of the hospital for procuring new equipment for two facilities – Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Department and Artificial Limb Centre – the doctors promised to sanction funds to the tune of Rs.1 crore.

B. Santha Kumar, Dean, GRH, said, “I am glad that our proposal has been accepted. The WHO officials were satisfied with our work and are willing to allot more funds for our work.”

“The funds would be utilised to purchase state-of-the-art equipment such as a hydrotherapy unit, which would replace the old machinery,” he added.

The WHO representatives were accompanied by Dr.Santha Kumar.
