Plus One students from State Board schools in Madurai secured an overall pass percentage of 93.48 this year. Madurai district secured the 15th rank in the State.

Out of 37,750 students, who appeared for the examinations from Madurai, Melur and Usilampatti, 35,290 passed on Wednesday. The pass percentage of girls stood at 97.09 while those of boys stood at 89.52.

According to officials from the School Education Department, a comparison can be drawn in 2019, as results from Class 11 and 12 will show the overall status of higher education.

“Many private and public schools often resort to teaching class 11 syllabus in Term 1 and move to Class 12 portions. Students mug portions and get good marks in Plus Two examinations but they could not score good marks in competitive examinations. By analysing Plus One marks, we will be able to bridge the gap and work for better score,” said a senior official.

Students from Madurai scored a pass percentage of 94.77 followed by Melur (92.02) and Usilampatti (92.67). Of the total of 305 schools in the district, Corporation and aided schools showed good performance with a pass percentage of 93.46 and 94.67 respectively.

Kallar Reclamation schools got a pass percentage of 89.50. Adi Dravidar Welfare schools scored less than other schools with a pass percentage of 76.88. Of the total 305 schools, only 105 managed to get cent percent pass.

Schools would not retain any students in Plus One in order to ease pressure.

Authorities explained that they would be given special attention and additional training to clear Plus Two examinations.
