The Madras High Court bench here on Wednesday imposed a fine of Rs. 5,000 on the chairman of the Teachers Recruitment Board, observing that the official had failed to file a counter to a petition filed by a candidate, who wrote the Teachers Eligibility Test (TET) in 2012, despite a notice issued by the court nearly a year ago.
The candidate had alleged that the TRB had published incorrect answers to some of the questions in its answer key. A. Surya, who wrote the TET for selection of B.T. Assistants in Maths on October 14, 2012, had filed a petition in the court claiming that the answer key published on TRB’s official website shortly after the examination had wrong answers to at least nine questions.
She had entered correct answers to the nine questions, but lost marks for the nine questions because the evaluators assessed the questions as per the answer key, Ms. Surya claimed.
According to the petitioner, she had submitted a representation to the chairman of the TRB on November 12, 2012 seeking full marks to the nine questions she had answered correctly, but did not receive a reply.
Therefore, she moved the court.
The court had earlier ordered notice to the TRB chairman seeking his response to the petition.
On Wednesday, Justice S. Nagamuthu, who heard the case, noted that nearly a year after the court had issued notice, and despite repeated adjournments, the chairman had not filed his reply.
Adjourned
The judge asked the chairman to pay Rs. 5,000 to the court and adjourned the case to November 11 for further hearing.
