Lorry driver tries to mow down VAO

Tirunagar police have registered a case of attempt to murder against a lorry driver, S. Ramachandran (31), for trying to mow down a village administrative officer, Periyasamy, with a sand-laden van on Tirupparankundram-Nilayur road on Thursday.

Police said that the Nilayur VAO tried to intercept the van around 10.30 a.m. when the incident occurred. The Tirunagar police have booked the driver also for preventing a government official from discharging his duty and are on the lookout for the driver.

Boys missing

Two Tenth Standard students of Solai Alagupuram are missing from Wednesday evening. Police said that the boys, aged 15 and 16 years, had scored poor marks in the recently held quarterly examinations. When the marks were declared on re-opening of the school, the parents had reportedly reprimanded them for their poor academic performance.

One of the boys had taken Rs. 2,000 from the house, the police said. The Jaihindpuram police are searching for the boys.

Money stolen

A sum of Rs. 1.80 lakh was stolen from a retired engineer, S. Krishnamoorthy, at Mahalipatti off South Veli Street on Thursday.

Police said that the 72-year-old man was coming out of a bank after withdrawing money when he found the cash missing. South Gate police are investigating.

Chain snatched

Unidentified persons snatched a seven-sovereign chain from a woman pillion rider under the Ellis Nagar road overbridge on Thursday night.

Police said that S. Chidambararajan (45) of Paravai was riding a two-wheeler when he was followed by two persons on another bike. One of them yanked the gold chain from the woman riding pillion and escaped around 8.30 p.m.

S.S. Colony police are investigating.
