November 07, 2011 02:38 pm | Updated 02:38 pm IST - MADURAI:

The Madurai District Crime Branch police arrested three persons here on Sunday. Based on a complaint lodged by Mariappan, son of Gurusamy Nadar of Kallikudi, Superintendent of Police Asra Garg directed the DCB police to register a case.

Investigations revealed that a land measuring 14 cents at Vellakulam, which belonged to Mariappan, and another 35 cents belonging to Raju of Thirumangalam (totalling 49 cents) were allegedly sold by a gang after creating fake documents.

It was found that Mariappan, son of Karuppiah of Cholapuram near Thirumangalam, had indulged in this act. The gang had used the fake documents and registered the transactions with the Sub-registrar's office.

With the help of his other accomplices R. Bharathan of Kallikudi and D. Murugan of Thankankulam, Mariappan had sold the land to one Manoharan, son of Thangavelu, of Tirunagar. After registering a case, the police arrested Mariappan (37), Bharathan (46) and Murugan (47).
