Lack of amenities in Teppakulam: HC initiates suo motu proceedings

The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court, taking cognisance of lack of basic amenities at Teppakulam near Vandiyur Mariamman Temple here, initiated suo motu proceedings on Monday .

A Division Bench of Justices K.K.Sasidharan and P.D. Audikesavalu initiated suo motu proceedings, taking into account the lack of basic amenities and alleged fleecing of public by contractors in the name of parking fee and toll fee at the vacant land near the temple.

The court observed that the district administration and Meenakshi Sundareshwarar Temple authorities, under whose management Teppakulam falls, had failed to provide basic infrastructure at the water tank to the public when it was their bounden duty to do so.

The court suo motu impleaded the contractors, who were appointed by the temple and currently holding licence to collect the fee, in the case and adjourned it for hearing till November 26.
