Rain lashes western part of Kanniyakumari district

Maximum of 48.7 mm rain recorded in Kozhiporvilai

Heavy rain with thunderstorm occurred in many places of western part of Kanniyakumari district on Tuesday night. The district received a total of 484 mm rainfall till 8. a.m. and the average rainfall was 30.25 mm.

Farmers started farming activities in full swing.

Kozhiporvilai, a border village with Kerala, registered a maximum of 48.7 mm till 8.30 a.m. on Wednesday. Drizzling continues in the border villages too.

The coastal town Colachel recorded a rainfall of 46.4 mm. Rainfall recorded at 8.00 a.m. on Wednesday (in mm) was: Mambazhathuraiaru 42, Kuzhithurai 40.4, Surulode 38.4, Chitrar I 37, Mullanginavilai 37, Thuckalay 36.2, Kannimar 33.5, Nagercoil 32, Perunchani 31.2, Puthen Anai 30.8, Pechiparai 30.2, Mylaudy 28.6, Boothapandi 26, Chitrar II 21, Kottaram 20.2, Eraniel 19.3, Adayamadai 19, Poigai and Aravaimozhi each 17.4 and Kaliyal 12.8.

The water level in the following dams (in feet) was: Chitrar I 2.20, Perhciparai 16, Perunchani 34.90, Chitrar II 2.29, Poigai 0.70 and Mambazhathuraiaru 23.62 mm, sources in the Water Resources Organisation of PWD said.
