“Kalam combined ethics with science”

July 30, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:51 am IST - MADURAI:

Former President of India A.P.J. Abdul Kalam lived to harness the benefits of science for people’s well being, Most. Rev. Antony Pappusamy, Archbishop of Madurai, said in a tribute on Wednesday.

In his condolence message, the Archbishop recalled how Mr. Kalam, who hailed from a humble background, led a life filled with zeal to fulfil his duties to the nation.

He upheld the virtues of a citizen and, as a scientist, always combined ethics with science.

While occupying the highest position in the country, Mr. Kalam was not swayed by power but used love and peace as tools to be one among the masses.

Rev. Antony Pappusamy hailed Mr. Kalam as a person who had high regards for other faiths even while being a devout Muslim.

It was quite heartening whenever Mr. Kalam recalled the role played by his teachers in the Catholic educational institutions he had studied in his development.

The Archbishop said that the right homage to the person who had lived a life of fruition would be to emulate his qualities and values.
