Jewels stolen from locked house

Valuables, including gold jewels, were stolen from the locked house of Baskar Raja of Pandian Nagar at Surveyor Colony on Thursday.

The crime came to light on Friday when the inmates, who were out of station, returned to find the doors broken open and the valuables missing.

According to the complainant, a former employee of the Superintendent of Police office in the city, 40 sovereigns were missing.

11 two-wheelers gutted

Eleven two-wheelers were destroyed in a fire that broke out in the parking lot of a cinema house in Arasaradi at 11 p.m. on Thursday.

Fire tenders from Periyar bus stand area rushed to the spot and doused the fire. But the vehicles had been destroyed by then. S.S. Colony police are investigating.

Liquor bottles seized

Pandi, owner of a teashop opposite Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) depot in Tirumangalam, was arrested for stocking liquor bottles on Friday.

The police were tipped off that he had stocked over 500 bottles of liquor on a dry day declared on account of Thiruvalluvar Day. Tirumangalam police seized the bottles from him.
