CCTV footage captures image of burglar

About eight kilograms of gold ornaments and Rs.2.5 lakh in cash were stolen from a jewellery shop located on the busy North Cotton Road here in the early hours of Thursday.

A morning walker who noticed the shutter of the shop left partially opened at around 7 a.m. alerted police. A police team visited the spot and conducted inquiries with the people in the vicinity.

The police said two CCTV cameras installed inside the shop provided vital clues. The burglar, carrying a gunny bag, partially opened the shutter, probably using a duplicate key, and entered the shop.

The CCTV footage showed the clear image of a fair complexioned person holding a torch in his mouth and walking up to the jewel stands. Later he went straight to the cash box, he pointed out.
