RAMANATHAPURAM

Alleging that the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh and other Hindu outfits were trying to foment communal clash in Periyapattinam village, Jamath leaders and residents urged the Collector and the Superintendent of Police to initiate action against trouble mongers.

In a memorandum submitted to Collector K. Veera Raghava Rao and Superintendent of Police Omprakash Meena on Wednesday, the Jamath leaders, accompanied by local people, said that Hindus and Muslims had been living in the village in harmony for several decades and attempts were now being made to disturb peace and tranquillity.

They said the coastal village had emerged as one of the model villages for peace and communal amity. But, of late, some mischievous elements were trying to disturb peace, they said.

On Tuesday night, a couple of youth assembled at the bus stand and made communally provocative remarks. They threatened to bring RSS volunteers from outside and create problem, the Jamath leaders alleged.
