In a new twist to the death of a man, who was allegedly killed by his wife with a cricket bat (she subsequently walked free on private defence grounds Indian Penal Code Section 100), the parents of the deceased have raised a volley of questions and demanded a thorough probe by the CBI.
Last week, S. Jothibasu (46) was allegedly murdered by his wife Usharani. Oomachikulam police registered a case of murder (IPC Section 302) and arrested the accused.
In her confession, she had reportedly stated that “I did the crime only as private defence since my husband not only assaulted me, but also attempted to rape my daughter.
He was in an inebriated mood.” Under the IPC Section 100, the police let off the accused after preliminary probe.
Under such circumstances, Jothibasu's father S. Samayamuthu and mother Karupayee of Chinthamani near here addressed a press conference on Friday, accompanied by their advocate M. Stalinmani.
Narrating his stand, Mr. Samayamuthu said that in the entire issue the action of the Oomachikulam police gave an impression that they were in a hurry to take a decision and close the case.
He also said that the body of Jothibasu suggested that he was beaten severely by at least three to four persons.
There were injuries all over the body.
“Just a single woman could not have committed the crime that too with a cricket bat as reported in the media,” he charged.
He demanded a fair probe.
“The police should summon all parties (relatives and friends) known to Jothibasu and then render justice. As the father of the deceased, I have certain details to share with the police… since it concerned my son. We have not been given a chance….,” he maintained.
Mr. Stalinmani said that Jothibasu was affectionate to his children and levelling a charge that he attempted to misbehave with his own daughter was nothing but a tactic used to mislead the investigators and give a bad impression among the public about the dead man.
Instead of cremating Jothibasu's body as per customary Hindu rituals, the relatives had only buried it purposely, he added.
