The police are on the lookout for Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam’s Tirunelveli west district secretary in connection with a murder.

Speaking to reporters at Serntharmaram police station on Tuesday evening, Superintendent of Police P Ve Arunshakthikumar said Village Administrative Officer of Ariyanayagipuram near Sernthamaram filed a complaint with the Sernthamaram police on June 15, 2016 saying that the body of a male, aged between 45 and 50 with multiple stab injuries, was floating in a quarry pit at K.M. Achchampatti.

Even as the police special teams were probing the case, Ramar Pandian of Karadikulam was picked up during a vehicle check organised at Thirumalaapuram intersection on the night of September 23 on suspicion.

During interrogation, he told the police that he, along with his associates Venkatesh and Shenbagaraj, both from nearby Poigai village, had murdered Muthuramalingam on the instruction of S. Mariappan of Poigai, Tirunelveli west district secretary of Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam.

“Ramar Pandian told the police that Mariappan, who had a property dispute with Muthuramalingam, had instructed him to murder his enemy. Subsequently, Ramar Pandian took Muthuramalingam with the help of Venkatesh and Shenbagaraj to the secluded quarry in a moped where the trio stabbed him to death,” said Dr. Arunshakthikumar, who honoured the special police team members and others with cash award.

While Ramar Pandian was arrested, the hunt is on to nab Venkatesh, Shenbagaraj and Mariappan.
