Members affiliated to Tamil Nadu Physically Handicapped Associations Federation, South Zone Forum formed a human chain near the Madurai Collectorate on Monday, to mark World Differently Abled Day.

The Federation also passed twenty five resolutions, urging the State government to make operational the social security schemes formulated for their welfare. “The State had promised 3 percent reservation for the differently abled to secure job in government sectors. But that has not been implemented yet. A high committee headed by the chief secretary of the State should look into the issue immediately”, said one of the resolutions.

“The funds allocated for social security schemes for the differently abled persons have not been utilised for two years. They should be disbursed with immediate effect”, the members implied.

S. Boopathy, general secretary of South Zone Forum and members from Dindigul and Sivagangai were part of the human chain, which was inaugurated by R. Thirunavukarasu, Deputy Commissioner (law and order), Madurai City.

Members of Madurai District Differently Abled Welfare Association also staged a demonstration near Anna Bus stand insisting that the differently abled persons employed on a temporary basis be made permanent employees. They further said that the district administration should consider their long pending request seeking pattas for housing plots, apart from allocating land to build an office for their association.
