In a daring daylight burglary, unidentified persons stole over 21 sovereigns of gold from the locked residence of a bank official at Vilangudi here on Tuesday.

Police said C. Pugalendi (54), Assistant Manager in a nationalised bank in Paravai, and his wife, who is also employed in a bank, had left home at Kaliamman Temple Street in Vilangudi for work.

On their return home around 8 p.m., they found that the door was broken open and the jewels were missing. The inmates had left the keys of the almirah in the house. Jewels kept in a box in one of the almirahs were stolen. Sellur police are investigating.
