The city police have cracked a hit-and-run accident case in which a man, Rakkaiah, was killed and his son, Pandithurai, was injured when an unidentified car hit their two-wheeler and sped away on July 14. The accident occurred on Sivaganga Road near Gomathipuram when the two from Neerethan near Vadipatti were riding the motorcycle.

A team of police led by Inspector Pethuraj (Anna Nagar) investigated the case and traced the car with the help of closed circuit television cameras at Sivaganga Road check-post and Chittampatti toll gate.

The police arrested the driver, M. Pandi, 42, of Karaikudi. Commissioner of Police S. Davidson Devasirvatham appreciated the team.
