The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court has stayed an order passed by the Assistant Commissioner of Customs, Tiruchi International Airport, that directed seizure of jewels belonging to a woman from Myanmar for concealment.

The woman, Tin Tin Lwin, who sought to quash the order, said she was on a visit to Tiruchi and was held by customs officials at the airport. She said her jewels were seized on the ground of concealment but she did not conceal them. The petitioner complained that without providing her an opportunity to explain, her jewels were seized. The seizure order was passed without application of mind, she said.

Justice Abdul Quddhose granted an interim stay on the order and adjourned the hearing to June 17.
