The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court on Monday sought a report from the State on the closure of the Tasmac shops. The court asked the State to file a report on the closure of Tasmac shops after it was informed that the closure would be taken up in a phased manner.

A Division Bench of Justices N. Kirubakaran and S.S. Sundar sought the report from the State on April 8. The court suggested that recreational clubs should be regulated like the Tasmac bars.

It called for stringent measures to implement regulation. It was pointed out during the course of the hearing that while the authorities were checking for drunken driving elsewhere, they were failing to do so right in front of Tasmac bars. This was leading to safety issues. The court adjourned the hearing until April 8.
