Pulling up the Adi Dravidar and Tribal Welfare Department for filing a vague counter affidavit, the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court sought a detailed counter from the department on the disbursement of Post Matric SC/ST Scholarship to eligible students.

A Division Bench of Justices T.S. Sivagnanam and R. Tharani observed that the department should file a proper counter affidavit, if not an official would be summoned.

A contempt petition was filed by A. Ajith of Theni seeking a direction to the department to follow the earlier order of the court and sanction the Post Matric SC/ST Scholarship to eligible students immediately after the commencement of the academic year. Payment of arrears for eligible students under the scheme was still pending, he said.
