A Division Bench of Justices N. Kirubakaran and S.S. Sundar of the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court on Friday ordered notice to the Madurai district administration on a public interest litigation petition that sought a direction for appropriate action against officials who issued work completion certificates to illegal constructions.

The petitioner, advocate R. M. Anbunithi, sought appropriate action against those officials who had issued work completion certificates without verifying the buildings in the city. He blamed the authorities for construction of buildings in violation of the Town and Country Planning Act. Such buildings posed a threat to the common man, the petitioner said.
