GRH celebrates ‘Hospital Day’



Doctors from the Government Rajaji Hospital celebrated ‘Hospital Day’, an event to acknowledge the contributions of Dr. Muthulakshmi Reddy, a surgeon, educator, lawmaker and social reformer, on her 133rd birth anniversary here on Tuesday.

Surgeons at the hospital, members from the nursing school and department faculty took part in the event.

Dean K. Vanitha and J. Sangumani, Medical Superintendent, spoke on feminism, the need to care for mothers and provision of antenatal care. Mothers need to be protected particularly before and after pregnancy, Dr. Sangumani said.

Nominated MLA Nancy Ann Cynthia Francis spoke on the contributions of Dr. Muthulakshmi Reddy, on her contributions as the first female Indian girl student in the Department of Surgery at Madras Medical College and one of the first few women daughters in the country. “We need more women doctors fighting courageously to have equal participation,” she said.

Doctors from all departments presented their reports and their achievements in the last year. They handed in details of updates that has been made with time.

The doctors also held a baby shower for three expecting mothers.
