The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court on Thursday directed the Dindigul Collector to consider the plea of a Dalit woman from Oddanchatram, a victim of sexual assault, and pay her a compensation of ₹ 3,15,000.

Justice Anand Venkatesh, hearing the plea of the woman, said the victim was entitled to get compensation from the District Collector as per the SC/ST Amendment Act, 2018, and appropriate orders should be passed within four weeks.

The woman had filed a petition seeking a direction for grant of victim compensation fund for her. She said she was in a relationship with a caste Hindu, who promised to marry her, but reneged on his promise later. He was booked under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities Act).

The case is pending before Oddanchatram Magistrate Court.
