Gold, cash stolen from two houses

Over 30 sovereigns of gold and Rs. 58,000 cash were burgled from two houses in the district.

In the burglary that were reported under the S.S. Colony police station limits, 20 sovereigns of gold and Rs. 20,000 were looted from the house of a real-estate businessman, Parthiban (40) at Nataraj Nagar.

The family that had been out of station returned on Sunday to find the door broken open. The gold and cash kept in the almirah were missing. Meanwhile, P. Meyyappan (55) of Ayyappanaickenpatti under the Kadupatti police station limits complained that 12 sovereigns of gold and Rs. 38,000 cash were stolen from his locked house on April 29.

He lodged a complaint with the police on Monday.

He said that he and his family members had gone to the farm after locking the door of his house at Kaliamman Koil Street. He had left the keys near the door.

On return he found the valuables looted from the almirah.
