MADURAI
Four police personnel sustained injuries when an auto driver, R. Moovendran, 48, attacked them with a machete, reportedly under the influence of alcohol, at Ansari Nagar under S.S. Colony police station limits on Saturday night.
The injured were Special Sub-Inspector Rathinavelu, head constables Ramalingam and Senthil Kumar and constable Suresh, all attached to S.S. Colony police station. They were administered first aid at a private hospital.
The police said Moovendran was terrorising passers-by on Kanmaikarai Road with a machete. When the police personnel rushed to the spot around 11 p.m., Moovendran attacked them, inflicting injuries on their hands.
However, the police personnel overpowered him and arrested him for attempt to murder.
