Fishers and members of various chank divers associations on Monday demanded proper water supply to Threspuram in the district.

During the weekly grievance redressal meeting at the Collectorate, they said that in the absence of house connections, water was delivered through lorries. The supply was also irregular.

A groyne and three jetties should be constructed, and dredging should be taken up on the shore to prevent damage to country boats, they added.

Further, the members also demanded that the damaged roads in the area be repaired at the earliest.

Residents of Kulayankarisal submitted a petition again, demanding that an alternative alignment be adopted for laying a gas pipeline by Indian Oil Corporation.

They said that none of the top officials visited their area despite several pleas to explore the possibility of an alternative alignment. They expressed fears that the gas pipeline would adversely affect agriculture in the area.

Members of Makkal Neethi Maiyam demanded relaying of roads and desilting of water bodies ahead of the monsoon. They also demanded setting up of seating facilities at the makeshift bus stand created on SAV school ground.

Members of All India Democratic Womens’ Association sought repair of a drain near Chidambara Nagar school in Ward 12 of Vilathikulam town panchayat.

They said the drain did not have a slope to allow proper flow of sewage. Despite several complaints over the years, the problem had not been fixed, they said.
