A new fish landing centre will be established at Threspuram. Infrastructure facilities will be augmented at a cost of Rs. 5.8 crore. Preliminary works of the project are under way.

Heavy machineries are being mobilised to the construction site. The centre will have a 300-metre-long wharf and a 100-metre-long jetty, according to sources. Besides, the centre will be provided with fish auction hall, net mending centre and other basic requirements.

The project, which commenced here recently, is being undertaken by the engineering wing of the Fisheries Department. The period for construction is 12 months. Minister for Fisheries K.A. Jayapaul is expected to inaugurate the project in a week.

The centre will be an advantage to fishermen using country boats off the Threspuram coast. Such facilities are being developed across the State to ensure hygienic handling of fish. With such work, quality of seafood can be maintained. Consumers will also be happy to procure quality fish. Fish products can be sold at an optimum price, sources added. Next to Punnaikayal, another coastal hamlet, Threspuram holds the credit of housing such facilities.
