The National Banana Festival 2017 is to be held at the Agricultural College and Research Institute here from July 21 to July 23.
According to an official press release, the festival, which is intended to encourage farmers, businessmen and exporters, and to attract investment for creating infrastructure to meet pre-harvest and post-harvest needs, will be organised by Union and State governments in collaboration with trade bodies, including Tamil Nadu Banana Producers’ Federation.
Conferences, educational tours and an exhibition with stalls of various companies and government organisations showcasing the latest technologies for banana cultivation will be part of the festival, which is expected to see participation from banana-growing farmers from across the State.
Ministers from State and Union governments, senior officials, industrial leaders and academicians from India and abroad will participate in the festival.
A review meeting on the arrangements for the festival was held here on Thursday by S.J. Chiru, Commissioner, Agriculture Marketing and Agri Business; Archana Patnaik, Commissioner, Horticulture; K. Veera Raghava Rao, Collector; K. Ramasamy, Vice-Chancellor, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University; S. Suresh, Dean, ACRI, and other senior officials.
