MEGAMALAI

A female Asiatic Leopard Cat, about one-year-old, was found dead in the Chinnamanur range of the Megamalai Wildlife Sanctuary late on Saturday night.

The animal, protected under Schedule 1 of the Wildlife Protection Act, is a small mammal the size of the domestic cat but with skin patterns resembling a leopard. A post-mortem was conducted on Sunday morning and an inflammation of the intestine was found.

“According to veterinarians, the inflammation could be a result of a bacterial infection. The carcass was burnt,” said Megamalai Wildlife Warden Sachin Bhosle.
